“Apolinaria Lorenzana” was painted in Photoshop for a Book cover in the Educational Publishing Industry. The subject  was a historical character from San Diego’s past. No actual image of the character actually exist for reference but her story along with accounts of events leading up to and during the American occupation of southern California was preserved in her memoirs. Apolinaria was sent to California from Mexico in 1800 to help Spain’s efforts to populate the region. After Mexico won independence from Spain, Apolinaria became a Rachera, and the padres at Mission San Diego de Alcala awarded her two ranches for her years of service and devotion. –
